much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.
Been stood in the middle of a busy road in icy winds and rain all day interviewing often irate motorists. Oh joy!
Why don't some of them realise that if they stopped shouting and complaining about how late they'll be and just answer the questions, they'd be on their way a lot quicker?!
And they're saying its us who were the dumba$$es lol!!

But the advice in the topic heading is still valid - wear your motorcycle helmet! And if you're a cyclist (pedal powered) the same - wear a cycle helmet!!
And cover up all the skin that you can too. A former work colleague of mine joined the police and his first fatal accident attendance was a motor cyclist - no helmet, wearing a t-shirt and shorts. He says the carnage was not pleasant.
my country has been democratically free since 1994 when nelson mandela was elected as the first black president of south africa - there was much celebration as this new rainbow nation looked to it's bright furture.
mandela had and still has a fantastica aura about him, drawing in all sorts of people for different backgrounds / colours into into his peaceful presence.
mandela holds no bitterness towards his past imprisonment - he thought it a wast of time to dwell on a violent past.

Layla I do think you are either trying to read more into LouBelle's comments than there actually is, or you are practising (very) selective reading techniques. I haven't noticed even a hint of prejudice in her posts. Whether you like it or not, what LouBelle has described IS happening - and no amount of donations from you or others to educate "those poor black folk" (how patronising!!) is gonna make a scrap of difference until hearts and attitudes change - all you'll get is well educated hate-filled thugs instead. Whether you like it or not, South Africa's infrastructure as it is now was built and maintained by the ruling white class - which would be better now that apartheid is gone? Tear it all down and start again from scratch, or to build upon what is already there in spite of HOW it came to be there?
At the moment, it seems to be that some sections of the black community in South Africa would prefer to tear it all down and start again.
Look what's happening in Zimbabwe, a once prosperous, self-sustaining nation (yes run by whites and built on the backs of blacks!) is now in a state of total collapse - they can't even feed themselves any more, let alone conduct business with the rest of the world - that's what happens when people decide they want "what's rightfully theirs" now, instead of coming and working alongside the white people who had established the infrastructure and learning with and from them. Would you really like to see the same thing happen in South Africa too Layla?
Perhaps you'd like every single 'non-black' to leave sub-Saharan Africa and let the ancient tribes run it all once more? They can sort out their own differences amongst themselves then!

Historical figures for me are Elizabeth Fry who did a lot for prison reform, the homeless and children during the 18th-19th centuries.
Also Helen Keller who developed sign language for deaf-blind people, Marie Curie (discovered polonium and radium) and Gladys Aylward who helped remove the practice of foot-binding in China and led many children to safety when the Japanese invaded.

disconcerting but amusing to see the audience bastardise the jerry springer call for wogan and now it's terry terry terry.. if we were going to win on attractive luridly dressed girls we're in with a chance - although more cleavage and ass i say.. the second band the revelations are good, but not quite the grand climax i was hoping for.. .

Lots of gardening on the horizon for me too - my lawns are really out of shape, I didn't mow them enough last year, my flower bed needs clearing of dead foliage and my hedgerow needs trimming down. The only part of my garden which looks good at the moment is a rough patch at the far end where the bluebells and crocuses are beginning to show through!
I also need to prepare my vegetable plot but its been so wet the last few days that the soil will be too heavy, plus I don't want to kill too many earthworms which keep the soil more fertile they usually come closer to the surface when its wet. A good friend gave me some seed potatoes - pink fir apple and charlotte - varieties I've never tried before - plus some onion sets so I'll need my garden ready to plant them in around 3 weeks time. I'll probably get an Arran or maris variety of potato to plant later for my main crop, plus some broccolli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, turnips and carrots. I might try leeks too, but they need a lot of water - practically drowning!
My dilapidated garden shed has finally had it - earthquake and high winds have torn the roof in two - I smell a bonfire on the horizon when the wood dries out a little I might salvage some of the wood and the windows though to build a cold-frame so I don't have to raise seedlings all over my house as I have been doing!
Felicia Feline is going back to the vet tomorrow to have her solitary tooth looked at again - she's still eating well and it doesn't appear to be bothering her - she's not drooling or pawing her mouth plus she's still eating well - but the tooth and gum doesn't look great.
Ah well, better get on with my studying now.

Indeed I am, crumpet! I got rid of my tv after the last summer Olympics. I don't really miss it, apart from odd occasions, the beeb have a lot of programmes in the catch up part of their website now so I watch out for interesting stuff on there. I listen to the radio a lot - the good thing is that I can do that and study at the same time whereas you can't watch tv and study! The tv licensing people don't seem convinced that I have no tv - I live in one of 'those' areas of town lol! So anyway - do we have a potential winner??
if you don't remember my move out 3 months well, long story short, things weren't working out for my roommate and i, and we found someone to take my place.
he signed the papers, and i moved out.
he backed out of the agreement, and so my ex-roommate is left paying all of the rent.
I don't get it. Are we getting the full picture here?
Providing you terminated your part of the agreement, surely the onus for payment of overdue rent is upon the other guy who has since entered into the agreement - it is him who is in breach of contract, not you.
You should however be liable to pay any rent you owed before you terminated your own agreement - whether you were still living there or not.

Dammit, all the other BBC audio/video on their website is available in both Real and Windows media format - the Eurovision songs are only in Real Playerwhich I refuse to install because they ask for all your personal details before they register you - and then dump loads of other junk onto your PC even though you click the 'No' boxes
Well sod 'em all, I won't vote for any!! I'll cheer for the Irish glove puppet instead!!
